COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
The following classes will be taught in the two year study period of each full time student. (Note: The administration of the Northwest Florida School of Biblical Studies reserves the right to add, subtract or change any course. Please write to obtain the present or upcoming course schedule of classes or each quarter). E-1210 Elders, Qualifications and Work This is a study of the qualifications and the work of an elder. The authority is in the eldership not in an individual elder. B-1521 Hebrew History This is an intensive study of the history of the Jewish people from their beginning to the time of Christ. This course will last for four quarters and will cover, Gen., Ex., Lev. Num., Deut., Joshua, Judges, Ruth, I Sam., II Sam., Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. L-1301 English This is a study of the basics of the English language. It will emphasize the proper use of English grammar in speaking and writing. This course will last for three quarters. B-1330 General Biblical Introduction This is a study of the inspiration of the scriptures, canonicity of the scriptures, Biblical languages, writing materials, and the genuine- ness and authenticity of the scriptures. S-1321 Homiletics (Emphasis on I, II, III John & Jude) In this phase of homiletics the students will be preaching expository sermons on each chapter of these four books. This will not only teach the student how to preach and prepare expository sermons, but will also give the student the opportunity to research and gain an overall knowledge of these books. B-1301 Life of Christ This study will cover the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Mark and Luke will be paralleled. The student will learn about the life of Christ, from the promise that he would be born of a virgin to his ascension. The book of John gives great emphasis to the deity of Jesus, His relationship to the Father and His mission in the world. John gives some details not written in the other accounts of the gospel. B-1461 Bible Geography This course is a study of the lands, rivers and lakes of the Bible lands as they relate to God’s word. It is a study of the history of God’s dealings with his people. It will also allow the student to visualize the dealings of Israel with her neighbors. Slides, Ken made while visiting the Bible lands, will be shown in class in connec- tion with the study. B-1410 Acts This course is a study of the Acts of the Apostles. Emphasis will be given to the beginning of the Church to her growth, conversions, Paul’s missionary journeys and establishing of congregations in Corinth, Ephesus and etc. B-1331 Wisdom Literature This course involves a study of Job, Psa., Prov., Eccl., and Song of Solomon. This study will provide the important principles found in these books. L-1201 Library Research This course is an opportunity for the students to do research on papers assigned them in other classes. There will also be times that the director will assign special subjects to be researched by the students. B-2990 Hebrews In the study of this book, emphasis will be placed upon the following: the Old Testament scriptures teach that the Mosaic dispensation was from the first only preparatory and prophetic of a higher one to come; the superiority of Christ over the angels and Moses; the superiority of his law over the law of Moses; the superiority of his sacrifice and blood. The student will also learn much about the Christian life and what is expected of the child of God in this course. B-2302 Life of Christ This is a continuation of B-1301 B-2241 Church History This course will enable the student to better understand undenominational Christianity. It will allow him to view the New Testament church in its original purity and to realize that the same divine pattern can be followed with the same results today. B-2522 Hebrew History This is a continuation of B-1521 B-2210 Holy Spirit In this study special emphasis will be given to the work of the Holy Spirit. The question will be answered, How does the Spirit work today? L-2302 English This is a continuation of L-1301. S-2222 Homiletics This is a course on the “How to do it” in regard to preaching in the pulpit. Each student will learn how to properly prepare and present a sermon. This course will also involve attending funerals and weddings, hospitals and nursing home visitation, etc. B-2510 Apologetics (Christian Evidences) This course is a study of elements of Christianity that we base our faith upon. It will deal with the existence of God, the inspiration of the Bible, the divinity of Christ, and a refutation of evolution. B-2311 Major Prophets This study will cover such books as Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations and Ezekiel. This course will stress the importance of knowing and studying the prophets and the importance it has on understanding the New Testament. B-3303 The Life of Christ This is a continuation of B-1301. B-3523 Hebrew History This is a continuation of B-1521 B-3370 James—II Peter The students will receive great encouragement from the study of these books. They will be encouraged to endure patiently the trials that will come their way and to eliminate from their hearts and lives those things that would render them un-Christian in nature. B-3342 Church History This is a continuation of B-2241. B-3351 Denominational Doctrine This course will give the students an overall knowledge of the major denominations in the United States today. The students will also go out and interview and discuss these beliefs with preachers from various denominations. L-3303 English This is a continuation of L-1301. B-3332 Wisdom Literature This is a continuation of B-1331. S-3223 Homiletics This is a continuation of S-2222. B-3360 The Church This course will involve the study of the Church in purpose, promise, prophecy, preparation and perfection on Pentecost. The students cannot help but see the exhibition of God’s manifold wisdom in the study. There will be an in depth study of types and shadows pertaining to the Church. L-3202 Library Research This is a continuation of L-1201. B-4470 Scheme of Redemption This course will be an in depth study of God’s plan for redeeming man. The study will trace it from its origin, throughout its development, till it finally results in the eternal salvation of the redeemed in God’s everlasting kingdom. The text books to be used are the bible, God’s word, and “The Scheme of Redemption” by Robert Milligan. B-4233 Wisdom Literature This is a continuation of B-1331. B-4320 Hermeneutics This course will present the principles of how to interpret the Bible and how to study the Bible as well as how to ascertain Bible authority. B-4340 I, II Corinthians This course is a very intense course with emphasis on the problems that Paul deals with at Corinth and the great truths, doctrines and practical lessons for us to live by today. B-4612 Major Prophets This is a continuation of B-2311. L-4321 Greek This course will give each student a working knowledge of how to study the Greek of the New Testament and how to read and pronounce Greek words. This course will last for one year. S-4224 Homiletics This is a continuation of S-2222. L-4203 Library Research This is a continuation of L-3202. B-4330 Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, & Philemon. This course will emphasize the great themes of these books such as the Church, Christian Living and Christ’s relationship to the Church and Christians. B-5220 I, II Thessalonians This is a detailed study of these two books dealing with such subjects as the second coming of Christ and discipline in the church, etc. B-5250 I, II Timothy & Titus In this study emphasis will be given to the work of the evangelist and the qualifications and work of elders and deacons. B-5334 Wisdom Literature This is a continuation of B-1331. B-5313 Major Prophets This is a continuation of B-2311. B-5371 Minor Prophets This will involve a study of the books of the Minor Prophets. This course will stress the importance of knowing and studying the prophets and the importance it has on understanding the New Testament. L-5322 Greek This is a continuation of L-4321. B-5360 Romans & Galatians This will be an in-depth study of the books of Romans and Galatians. Emphasis will be placed on such topics as justification by faith and works of the Law of Moses. S-5225 Homiletics This is a continuation of S-2222. B-5252 Denominational Doctrine This is a continuation of S-3351. B-5350 Revelation This is a study of this most important Book. The students will be exposed to the various views of dating and meaning of the book. L-5204 Library Research This is a continuation of L-4203. B-5281 Christian Doctrine This course will deal with basic doctrines of the New Testament. L-6323 Greek This is a continuation of L-4321. B-6353 Denominational Doctrine This is a continuation of B-5371. B-6672 Minor Prophets This is a continuation of B-5371. S-6306 The Preacher and His Work The text book will be “The Preacher and His Work” by Jack Meyer, Sr. This course will teach the preacher such things as the importance of the relationship between the preacher and the congregation; the preacher’s family; the preacher’s library, visiting, some common mistakes, discouragement, etc. B-6360 Debate This course will teach the student the basics of debating and will actually debate various propositions of denominational doctrines. B-6310 Personal Evangelism This course will involve hands on field work plus classroom work on personal evangelism. B-6282 Christian Doctrine This is a continuation of B-5281. B-6201 Logic This is a practical approach to logic. This will present some basic principles of reasoning. The course will show how the Christian can use logic along side the Bible in teaching and defending the truth. B-6221 Parables This course is an in depth study of the Parables in the New Testament. L-6205 Library Research This is a continuation of L-1201.
